“Big Bang Theory” Stars Stand Up For Skin Cancer Awareness

Before recently passing away аt 17, Claire Marie Wagonhurst had asked that her favorite actors take a stand against the disease that was bringing her life tragically to an end. The Cast of CBS Television’s Big Bang Theory gladly came together to honor teens request and raise awareness around Adolescent Melanoma, the condition which has tragically cut Claire’s young life short. They put together a very moving and engaging public service announcement which will broadcast during CBS Olympic and other types of Primetime Coverage.

Though typically known for her beauty and comic, Kaley Cuoco uses her talents for advocacy in the PSA. In the TV spot, the actress who plays beloved character Penny on the hit show reads the following lines: “Adolescent melanoma is the No. 2 cancer in young people. Adolescent melanoma is truly a silent killer, with 90 percent of new cases occurring between the ages of 10 and 19.” The actress connects with the camera and it is quite easy to feel the immediacy behind her message.

One of the biggest points of the Big Bang Theory Star’s Campaign is the idea that regular annual visits to Dermatologists and the comprehensive screening services they offer are a vital link to protect our families against conditions like Skin Cancer. Early Detection can help save many lives as early treatment can be very effective in treating many conditions. Precancerous moles should ALWAYS be checked by professional experts. There is no reason to risk what could be prevented with Dermatology!

Since her daughter’s passing, Mariane Wagonhurt has devoted her life to raise awareness around skin cancer screening and detection. She started the Claire Marie Foundation to act as an advocacy group focused on raising awareness around these topics.

This is a great reminder as those hot days of summer continue to brighten our days and lift our spirits: skin health should be a daily priority. Remember to always wear appropriate skin protection and be sure to schedule your annual visit if you haven’t seen a dermatologist lately. The best way to prevent skin cancer such as the Melanoma which took young Claire’s life, is to regularly visit a licensed and certified Dermatology Expert!
