What is Mohs Surgery?
Mohs surgery is a specialized and highly effective technique to treat skin cancer. Unlike traditional surgical methods, which involve removing a larger portion of surrounding healthy tissue to ensure that all cancer cells are removed, Mohs surgery is much more precise.
Mohs surgery is performed in stages. The surgeon removes a thin layer of tissue and then immediately examines it under a microscope to determine whether all cancer cells have been removed. If any cancer cells remain, the surgeon removes another layer of tissue, continuing until all cancer cells have been eradicated.
Mohs surgery has a much higher success rate than other skin cancer treatments. This is due in part to the precision and accuracy of the procedure, as well as the expertise of the Mohs surgeon.
