Decoding Spider Veins Treatments

Imagine wearing little black dress for tonight’s gala. You have everything you need for a perfect night but you have one problem.

Spider veins.

Yep. Those little blue and black squiggly lines on your legs will definitely ruin your night. No matter how you hide it, it still won’t leave. Plus, hiding it won’t help. The only way for you to be contented right now is to get rid of it.

Something Inevitable

Before we go and discuss various spider veins treatment, let us first discuss what it is. Spider veins are those little blue and red lines that can be found on your legs. Albeit popular belief, spider veins are mostly genetic. Stories of how you get spider veins from wearing high heels all the time or from crossing your legs are all false.

What we are trying to say here is that having spider veins can be something you can’t get away from. You are given 2 options. To try and hide it using clothing or to treat it. Of course, treating it is always the best solution because you can’t let your spider veins dictate your fashion sense for the rest of your life.

Treatment Options

  • Self-Tanning – The first suggestion is not really a treatment but rather a way to cover spider veins. I know that I mentioned that treating it is better than hiding but this method won’t necessarily mean you have to hide it using clothes (which will be a total fashion disaster). For this method, you need to use a self-tanner to cover it up. It is best if you can apply it at night so that the blue lines will be less noticeably by morning. You should also stay away from self-tanners with shimmer as they may cause the spider veins to be even more pronounced.
  • Sclerotherapy – Don’t worry. It may be a bit hard to pronounce but the science behind sclerotherapy is pretty easy. Simply put, a doctor “destroys” the spider veins by injecting a detergent solution that makes it collapse. The only thing you should be worried about by this form of treatment will be the needle. If you can take needle prick then this method is great. You might need three to five treatments to vaporize a whole network of veins.
  • Go Laser – Using lasers is still the gold standard when it comes to treating spider veins and varicose veins in general. Most doctors recommend lasers especially for those who have bulging spider veins. The process usually involves the insertion of laser into the problematic vein to seal it close. A sclerotherapy session might be required to completely erase the spider vein.

Currently, these three are the more popular spider veins treatment options. Depending on your situation (and budget!), one may be favorable over the other. Either way, it is always best to talk to your dermatologist about it. They will be the ones who can give you the best recommendations for any skin ailments or concerns.

Arsenault Dermatology is an excellent, multi-service facility with friendly, capable staff and skilled physicians. I see Dr. Dana Ellis; she is thoroughly eagle-eyed in her exams, like a magician when removing unwanted skin defects, and most importantly, she treats the whole person in front of her, not just the problem. Overall, she is highly professional, exceedingly personable, and I am pleased to have found both her and this practice.

At my visit to Arsenault Dermatology, I was greeted by my Dr's assistant, John, a lovely gentleman who was very sweet and calming. We spoke and he answered all the questions he could and then Dr. Kellsey knocked and entered and we spoke about the procedure to remove my precancerous area on my back. I felt no pain and she was marvelous ✨️ ❤️. In two weeks I return to get my stitches removed and then return in August to have another area removed. I can't say enough about how wonderful I was treated! Best dermatologist in Manatee County. Thank you both so much 💓. Sharon F Price

I highly recommend this practice. Firstly, the office and exam rooms are immaculate and the receptionists are friendly and welcoming. P.A., Kaitlin Vaughn, who I’ve been seeing monthly for growth removals does amazing work and has helped clear up my skin beautifully. She uses an instrument to freeze the growths and has left no scarring or marks. Further, I’ve never waited longer than 10 to 15 mins for my appointment which is always a plus. There are also many locations from which to choose.
