IIt’s summer time and all of us just want to go out and have fun. Can’t you just imagine all the things you can do under the sun? As excited as you are right now, you might still need to pause for a moment and think about preparing for your summer and hot sun. First thing on your list? Your complete summer skin care regimen.
There are a lot of reasons why you need a specific skin care regimen for the summer. One good reason would be the fact that the weather is a lot warmer and you will most probably out there enjoying the summer heat longer. It may all sound like everybody’s dream come true, but summer and a hot sun can cause lots of stress to your skin. The result? Dry and dull skin or worse, sunburn.
So here are some important tips you must include in your summer skin care regimen. The whole regimen depends on you and your specific skin type, however, you must never forget to include the following:
- MOISTURIZE – We all learned in school that whenever a wet object is subjected to heat… It dries up. This is what happens to your skin every time you spend time under the sun. You might be into the habit of moisturizing your skin every now and then but you must increase the level of hydration for the summer because more heat means less hydrated skin. Nobody really wants dry skin, right?
- EXFOLIATE – There are a lot of reasons why people should exfoliate often and you might ask why exfoliation is good for the summer. Well, it’s pretty simple. As your skin dries up, it leaves behind dead and dulling skin debris. This mound of icky skin remains congests the skin preventing it to be hydrated properly. No matter how much moisturizer you use, it won’t have any effect if it isn’t be absorbed properly by your skin. So make it a habit to exfoliate before you moisturize every morning;
- WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE – This may seem like your regular summer tip but drinking lots of fluids will do your skin wonders. As a matter of fact, it can actually keep your skin healthy even under long durations of sun exposure. Make sure keep hydrated while at the beach or the pool. Not only will it keep the moisture balance inside your body, it will also help in the detoxification process;
- APPLY & REAPPLY – Ever been plagued by that age-old question about how much sunscreen is enough? The answer is quite simple. If you feel like it’s not enough, it probably isn’t. Most of us don’t really apply the required daylight protection we need during the summer. So don’t forget to apply sunscreen and make sure you apply enough (or a bit more) every 90 minutes. A typical adult needs a softball sized amount to cover the entire body;
- TAKE CARE OF DAMAGED SKIN – Now, it is safe to say that even though you have a fool-proof summer skin care regimen at hand, you might still have to deal with damaged skin. Don’t worry, this does not mean all the fun will end but you would be doing yourself a favor if you take time to mend the damages first. For sunburn, use cooling gels and other super-soothing botanicals that will help reduce the inflammation and redness. Other forms of sun damage such as wrinkles, coarse skin, or brown spots should be addressed right away. It would be best if you can talk to your dermatologist about the best way to solve the sun damage.
Don’t let the effects of the sun make your summer any less fun. With these important tips included in your summer skin care regimen, you can brave the summer heat and still have healthy, glowing skin afterwards. Just remember that too much exposure will still cause damage so you might want to think twice about spending hours upon hours sunbathing.
