A Well-Defined Chin

A well-defined chin and jawline is a desirable facial feature for men and women. KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine that improves the appearance and profile of the jawline by eliminating extra fat below the chin, also called submental fat or “double chin.” Prior to Kybella, patients needed surgical liposuction to achieve their desired chin and jawline appearance. Kybella is a breakthrough non-surgical treatment that can significantly reduce the appearance of a double chin with a series of injections.

What is Kybella?

Kybella’s active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that helps breakdown and absorb fat. When injected under the chin, it destroys fat cells which are then flushed from the body. Once destroyed, these cells are unable to store or accumulate fat, permanently eliminating your double chin. FDA-approved and on the market since 2015, Kybella injections can provide you with a desired well-defined chin and jawline.

FAQs on Kybella
How is the Procedure Performed?

Each treatment session involves a series of injections, which follow a grid pattern that is marked on the treatment area before the procedure starts. The number of injections varies from patient to patient.

How Many Treatments Are Required and How Often?

The number of treatment sessions will vary based on the amount of fat under the chin and your treatment goals. On average, patients require between 3 and 6 treatment sessions. Treatments are typically done at 6 weeks apart. Your provider will tailor a treatment plan that’s right for you.

How long do the results from Kybella last?

Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells under the chin. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic result with a series of treatments, further treatment is not expected.

What should I know prior to my Kybella treatments?

If possible, one week prior to your treatment, avoid taking aspirin, NSAID medications (Advil, Motrin, Aleve or Ibuprofen), gingko biloba, vitamin E or fish oil supplements. These agents may increase bleeding and bruising at the injection site. You will likely have swelling, bruising and numbness under your chin following the procedure. Swelling is a common part of the recovery time following the procedure so we recommend waiting to schedule important social events at least 3 weeks following the procedure. If bruising does occur, we recommend using DerMend bruise cream until bruising has resolved.

What should I avoid after Kybella?

After treatment, icing the treatments areas on and off for the remainder of the day is advisable. It is recommended to avoid working out for at least 24 hours.
