Is There Any Truth Behind Star Trek’s Skin Healing Technology?

If you’ve ever wished that some of the tricks you witnessed on Star Trek were real, you are not alone! There is a technology on the market, however, that is eerily similar to the medical ray gun, a.k.a. dermal regenerator, you would have seen used regularly on the science fiction series, that had the ability to instantaneously heal cuts and burns.

Well hold on to your hats folks, because there is now an ultrasonic emitter that appears to reduce healing times by as much as 30%. It’s not quite as fast at the medical ray gun, but it’s cutting edge technology that could help people around the world increase healing time for various types of wounds, including ones that are chronic issues. It’s also been proven to help solve numerous skin conditions.

WHO CAN THIS HELP?

This technology will likely be the most beneficial to older patients who suffer from chronic, repetitive wounds that never seem to heal. Ailments like bed sores can become on-going and are extremely frustrating. It’s been shown to reverse healing defects that are a result of things like diabetes and old age, pushing wounds to heal as they would in a young and healthy individual.

The other side of this considers infection and healing time of any wound. We all know the rate of infections that happen post-surgery, and it’s a major concern for anyone going under the knife. This treatment can speed up the natural healing process, thus significantly diminishing the risk of infection. Now that is something to get excited about!

It’s even found a use in cosmetic dermatology, as a treatment option for many common skin conditions. Due to its painless and easy administration, it’s something we will continue to see more of within the medical community. If you’d like to know more about how this type of technology could help your skin, simply reach out to your local dermatologist for further information.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The emitter is small and held-held — essentially, it stimulates tissue repair. It makes things happen significantly faster than they naturally would on their own. As we age, cells can forget what they are capable of and this technology has a way to kick-start that natural rhythm into high-gear, without any actual interference or intrusion into the body.

It’s an ultrasound therapy that doctors and dermatologists alike are finding more and more uses for.

I had an appointment today at Arsenault Dermatology on 77th Terrace in Lakewood Ranch. A biopsy they had done came back positive for Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). Today, I was there for Mohs surgery to be performed by Dr. Bryan Bishop. I was not in a great mood as this did not qualify as the ideal way to start the day. Having said that, Dr. Bishop was terrific. I don't recall ever laughing during a surgery appointment before, so this was a first. Granted the pre operation numbing shots were a pain but after that all went well and he was finished so fast, I was surprised it was over. After that I went to wait for the lab results to determine that all the SCC cells were now gone. About 20 minutes later. The results were back and the cancer was gone. Dr. Bishop came back to close the wound. All in all, the appointment was faster than I expected. Dr. Bishop is obviously very good at what he does and his one liners were quite funny. My favorite was, as he finished the stitches, he told me when the wound healed, I would have the best looking forehead in Lakewood Ranch! LOL. And a great time was had by all...even me. Thanks Dr. Bishop!
